Engineer. Dog Owner. Skeptic of Marketing Hype.

I’m an engineer by trade and a dog owner by choice. When my dog Nalla was a puppy, I started researching dog nutrition the same way I approach any engineering problem: with data, skepticism, and a refusal to accept marketing claims at face value.

What I found surprised me. Most dog food labels are designed to confuse. Most “expert” advice online is vague, sponsored, or both. So I started writing down what I actually learned — ingredient by ingredient, cost per serving, real-world testing. That became this site.

THE ORIGIN STORY

I Realized Most Dog Food Labels Were Confusing or Misleading. I Wasn’t Satisfied with ‘Good Enough’ for My Dog, So I Decided to Do the Research Myself.

I created Dog Food & Fun to be the resource I wish I had. I research ingredients, analyze nutritional profiles, and break down complex health info into simple, actionable advice. My goal is to help you make confident decisions so your dog can live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

It all started when I tried to find the perfect food for my own dog. I was overwhelmed by the vague labels, confusing ingredients, and flashy marketing that didn’t tell the whole story. As an engineer, I’m used to solving complex problems with logic and data—so I decided to apply that same mindset to dog nutrition.

My Methodology

Every review and recommendation on this site follows the same engineering framework:

  • Ingredient analysis: I read the full AAFCO label, not just the marketing copy. I check for named protein sources, identify fillers, and flag potential allergens or controversial additives.
  • Cost-per-serving math: “Premium” kibble is sometimes cheaper than budget brands per calorie. I do the math so you don’t have to.
  • Comparison testing: When I review a product, I compare it against at least 2-3 competitors on objective criteria — not just “my dog liked it.”
  • Sourcing: I prioritize peer-reviewed veterinary nutrition research, AAFCO guidelines, and real-world feeding trials over influencer opinions.

What I Am — and What I’m Not

✅ What I am:
An engineer who has spent years researching dog nutrition for Nalla. Someone who reads the actual studies, not the press releases.
❌ What I’m not:
A veterinarian. A pet nutritionist. A brand partner. Nothing on this site is medical advice — always consult a licensed vet for health decisions.

About Nalla

Nalla is a Labrador Retriever mix living in Tel Aviv. She’s the reason this site exists. She has a sensitive stomach, loves to run, and has absolutely no patience for dogs who don’t want to play. She has tried — and given honest feedback on — more dog foods than I care to admit.

Transparency

When I recommend products, this site sometimes earns a small commission through affiliate links. It never changes my recommendation. I have turned down sponsored partnerships because I didn’t believe in the product. My test: would I give this to Nalla?
